WebWhen the Battle of Port Gibson was fought on May 1st, many wounded were brought back to Windsor, where a temporary hospital was established in the basement. During this occupation, a Union soldier was shot and killed in the home’s front doorway. The details of the shooting remain unknown. WebQuiet and secluded and not crowded. Close to port Gibson, and a 27 mile drive to Vicksburg and about 40 to Natchez. Very interesting museum and civil war battlefield trail. Sites in the lower campground are mostly level and rarely fully booked. Recommended excepted for the long drive to Natchez or Vicksburg.
