Try rubbing the gasket with Super Lube or any other synthetic grease (no petroleum grease) and work it in for a minute or so.

So now there is no reason to prefer the Mercruiser style over the newer crank driven pumps. The new high capacity pumps are # 10-24805-01 Mod # F6B-9. WebOlder style pumps had multiple layers of parts on the rear of the pump. The old style tended to leak at the gaskets. Mercruiser improved the pump by using a single rear housing section.
