The Iceland Gull complex comprises two or three taxa of large white-headed gulls that breed in Arctic Canada and Greenland: glaucoides (Iceland Gull, breeding in Greenland), kumlieni (Kumlien’s Gull, breeding in ne. Canada), and perhaps thayeri (Thayer’s Gull, breeding in n. Canada). Mactavish has lived with thousands of wintering Kumlien’s Gulls for over 20 years.
